If you're looking for a classic mountain bike ride near Flagstaff, Campbell Mesa should top the list along with the Soldier Trail and Kelly Pocket. While all three are relatively easy rides compared to many of the backcountry trails north of town, Campbell Mesa tours the frontcountry through stands of massive ponderosa pine and oak, and offers views of Mount Elden and other nearby areas.

Description

Campbell Mesa is divided into a series of five loops that make it easy to cater a ride to the amount of time you have. This route links the Campbell Mesa Loop and Walnut Meadows Loop for a longer tour of the area. You'll wander through scenic meadows lined with wildflowers and witness views of Anderson Mesa and Mormon Mountain, especially as you near the furthest point of the ride. Wildlife sightings are not uncommon, and if you're looking for a longer ride, you can take a connector to Walnut Canyon on the AZT for even more miles and views.

A relatively easy ride compared to others in the region, Campbell Mesa is popular with mountain bikers, hikers, and trail runners alike, thanks to its proximity to town. A small unpaved trailhead and overflow parking are available where this loop begins, but neither water nor restrooms are available, so plan ahead. Well-behaved and leashed dogs are also welcomed to join their owners, just be courteous and respectful to other trail users and clean up after your pets.
