A longer, tighter version of Lodgeview
Freeride Skiing Moderate
While the standard Lodgeview line is over quite quickly, if you’re willing to head off-map and twist through some tighter trees, this line provides more rewarding vertical for the effort.
To access this line, drop from the top of Mirkwood Bowl toward Mirkwood Trees, traversing along the ridge to skier’s right. Remain high on the ridge, passing Mirkwood Trees and Staircase, while working your way to the very end of the ridge. Begin as you would for the standard Lodgeview line, but remain skier’s right, working your way to the south-facing side of the ridge, instead of skiing down the nose of the ridge.
Descending this aspect drops you toward Geno’s Meadows, but you’ll be separated from the standard meadows by a steep, narrow drainage. While dropping all the way into the drainage is manageable, for the best skiing try to stay high above the narrow gut of the drainage. If you find yourself dropping too deep into the valley, traverse skier’s left to stay high, and earn yourself a few more turns.
While the trees on top of Lodgeview are wide-open and easy to navigate, opting for this longer route drops you into a tight stand of trees that requires more precise turns and quick reactions. Couple the tight trees with avoiding getting sucked into the drainage means that some skiers find this line to be a bit too technical, but if you’re comfortable with twisting through tight spaces, you’ll be rewarded with some fresh turns!
