Freeride Skiing Difficult
Whirlpools is a great moderate black run off the High Traverse. Break off the middle traverse from Avalanche Gulch, just past Test Face, but before you go around the corner to Lower Nose. You will first head left around dense trees, then go either fall line, or back right. Everything beneath you are the Whirlpools. You can see everything from here, and although there may be a few rocky spots, its pretty straightforward. The steeper part only lasts for a few hundred feet, then it flattens out into a wide open meadow. Early season, the Whirlpools can be pretty thin, so beware of lurking obstacles. This area also receives a moderate amount of sun, so it may be in a freeze/ thaw cycle even earlier in the season. Whirlpools gets skied a lot, and often is bumped out.
