Hiking Moderate
Ravenel Park in Highlands is best known for its two scenic viewpoints, Sunrise and Sunset Rocks. Sunset offers an iconic view overlooking Main Street, Highlands, as well as HCLT's first conserved property in 1909, Satulah Mountain. In contrast, Sunrise offers a framed overlook of the Fodderstacks to the southeast.
In addition to it's two stunning views, the Eastern Continental Divide also runs right through the park. Water that originates here either flows to the Atlantic or towards the Gulf of Mexico depending on which side of the ridge you are on. Unusual flora includes the swamp azalea, umbrella tree and the pink lady slipper, an endemic orchid.
From Pine Street, turn right onto 5th Street. At the light, turn left onto Main Street/Horse Cove Road, then as you approach the Highlands Nature Center, look for the signage to Ravenel Park on your right. Due to the rugged, narrow road conditions, it's recommended to park at the bottom by the sign and walk up the gravel road to the trailhead as mapped.
