A wooded adventure just off the groomers
Freeride Skiing Moderate
At the point where Gemini splits to the left from Star Gazer, Ooompa Loompa Land begins. It is not marked but there are several entrances on the two blue runs that border this off piste area. From Gemini, look for an opening in the trees not far from the split of the blue groomed run. A narrow rutted luge track leads to excellent moguls when it hasn't snowed for a while, and potentially amazing powder turns after or during a snowfall. In the open area, trend right toward a gladed grove of Aspens. Going left will result in potentially unskied snow, in VERY dense trees. Continues through the aspen grove and follow any number of use paths through the woods which will lead to Banner. From the Star Gazer side of the run, go left into the trees at one of the less obvious entrances. This will lead to the lower portions of Oompa Loompa Land. The area offers seclusion in a busy area. It is a great introduction to off piste skiing, and a bit of adventure, with lower consequences in case of emergency. Beware, however. The area is ungroomed. Skiers should be comfortable with tight sharp turns, dense trees, moguls, and at times very deep snow.
