Freeride Skiing Severe
A classic off piste line at Sugarbush, involving multiple cliffs and tight choke points. This line is something you’d expect to find out west rather than in Vermont. Hike up from Paradise until you reach a summit knob, shortly after there is an opening in the trees, this is The Church. The Church has 2 entrances, the first entrance involves a sketchy 10-15 foot mandatory air. This entrance needs a lot of snow and a lot of confidence to be skied; best to leave this one for the pros and continue to the next entrance. This one has a small cliff with a tight turn, once you negotiate this, follow the chute until it chokes out to half a ski length. You will need make a blind turn through this section and stop above a 3-5 foot mandatory air. Hop this and traverse under the cliffs to an open rockslide. Ski the fall line into the woods, eventually you will pop out on Bailout.
Severe
Steep skiing at 38-45 degrees. This requires very good technique and the risk of falling has serious consequences.
