Description

Nestled in the north Okanagan is a hill known equally for its skiing and biking. Silver Star is second only to Whistler as BC's premier bike park, and it's also home to some fantastic lift-served skiing too. What's less known about Silver Star is that it's home to some wonderfully quiet hiking trails which pass though tranquil forests and offer some huge vistas across interior BC.

The 3 hikes we've described here are all technically easy, well signposted and non-technical, so they're ideal for introducing the family to the joys of hiking. Alternatively they're also ideal "rest" day adventures for those who've burned themselves out riding the epic Silver Star downhill bike trails! You can find our guide to those downhill trails elsewhere in FATMAP, but this guidebook is all about quietly strolling and enjoying the north Okanagan ambience.

Whether wild flowers, wildlife, views or trees are your thing, youll find them in here. The flowers at Silver Star can be sensational, and the views across to the Monashees have to be seen to be believed. In addition to the flora, there's no shortage of fauna, and you might be lucky enough to spot a deer from one of these hikes, or unlucky to see a bear! There is certainly no shortage of either at Silver Star.

So whilst Silver Star is rightly famous for its extreme ski and bike runs, take some time on your next visit to check out some of its quieter and less extreme corners.
