Description

Mt Assiniboine Provincial Park is a spectacular area to go hiking; the area is well known for its stunning scenery, with most of the accommodation located around the picturesque Lake Magog. Unlike many areas located this far into the backcountry, Mt Assiniboine is actually very accessible. You have numerous options for getting to Lake Magog - you can hike the entire way, as is shown in this guidebook, or many people choose to fly in via a heli that operates over the summer.

The good accessibility doesn’t stop once you arrive. There are a number of accommodation options, from the luxurious Assiniboine lodge, to the much more basic backcountry campgrounds. Ultimately, how you choose to visit this area is totally up to you - the important thing is that you make it here, as this is a trip you will be talking about for many years to come.

Mt Assiniboine is often referred to as the Matterhorn of the Canadian Rockies. You could easily spend a few days here relaxing and taking in the breathtaking scenery, but there’s plenty of trails to explore in this area. This guidebook gives you a comprehensive list of some of the best trails in the park.

Visiting Mt Assiniboine is quite rightly at the top of many peoples' bucket lists. This is a once in a lifetime experience for most of us and is something you certainly don’t want to miss. Even if you are not a seasoned backpacker, thanks to the good access you can still explore this legendary area.

Although this is a popular location with lodges & well-maintained campgrounds, you are still very much in the backcountry. Once you are away from the lodge, you are in a very remote area. This is also prime Grizzly Bear habitat; so make sure you remember your bear spray!
