The “14ers” are summits that rise above 14,000 feet, making them some of the tallest mountains in the US. Colorado has 53 of them, more than any other state. Some people make a goal to summit as many of them as they can. To bag them all, you need a broad skillset and need to travel quite a bit. Ascents range from straightforward hike-ups to advanced mountaineering, and the peaks are spread throughout the state. A handful are located close to Denver, however, including the best introductory ones. Whether you live in the city or come for a visit, you can start your tick list of peaks right here.
