The Huemul Circuit is not for the faint of heart. It is mostly unmarked, with technical terrain, steep ascents and descents, and two river crossings that might require zip lines and harnesses. You will need to carry all your camping gear, food and water, and be prepared for unpredictable weather and strong winds. You will also need to register and pay a fee at the ranger station before starting the trek.

The trek starts and ends in El Chalten, a small town that is known as the trekking capital of Argentina. You can reach El Chalten by bus or car from El Calafate, which has an airport with flights from Buenos Aires and other cities. • Day 4: Camp Bahia Tempanos to El Chalten (12 miles)
