Kågtinden East Summit (1165 m) Map

The north side of Kågtinden`s minor east summit holds several steep lines. This one is the most moderate (45 degree-ish) route, but the only one that leads directly to the east summit as well - it is the easiest route to this summit!

Description

The upper section of the route is a face that is visible from the main summit of Kågtinden - it just begs to be skied. Yet very few people actually get to ski it. The approach to the base is the same as the NE route (https://fatmap.com/routeid/863195/store-kagtinden-(1228-m)-ne-route):

From the road you head up to a lake, Isbuktvatnet. Crossing the lake is usually OK into May...but that varies from year to year. You can skirt around the lake on the looker's right side. The next sections feel exposed from above, but the bottom section is easy to travel through and quickly behind you.

At 890 m you head left, and boot-pack up a wide couloir. At the top of the couloir the angle lessens, and a face leads to the east summit.

The descent follows the same route. The upper face is plain awesome, and the the couloir is the steepest section at 45 degrees. The rest is a great ski run by itself, down the NE route of Kågtinden.

This route obviously requires excellent snow stability and ability to judge avalanche conditons. The avalanche bulletin can be found at: https://varsom.no/en/avalanche-bulletins/forecast/Nord-Troms/

Snow holds itself longer here than in most other places - well into May and often also June.
