Lille Piggtinden Map

This is an excellent ski tour consisting primarily of open slopes which are best skied at full speed! The tour finishes on one of the most distinctive and aesthetic summits on Lyngen, which only adds to the appeal of this route.

Description

Start by climbing through trees to the treeline and then continue ascending up towards the col to the south of Lille Piggtinden, following a vague valley. Shortly before reaching the col you come to a shelf which leads out left. Don't go to the col and instead follow the ramp leftwards to the foot of Lille Piggtinden's summit tower.

There's an obvious gully leading up to the summit - climb this on foot and then scramble onto the summit itself. The views are fabulous, with the various valleys and mountain ranges of the region revealing themselves as you turn around looking in different directions.

Depending on the snow conditions it can be possible to ski virtually from the summit but if in doubt, downclimb the couloir back to where it fans out onto open slopes.

Reverse the ascent route, drifting off left and right as and when it looks like there's some good snow to be had. The ski down has a great flow to it and there are natural pitches and ideal safe spots where you can regroup with your friends. All of the terrain is open, fun and fast to ski. As a result of this, the ski down will likely be over much quicker than you would like!

Once down, take a while to soak in the peaceful ambience of the fjord next to the parking area.
