Skittentinden (1042m) Map

Just west of Tromsø lies Kvaløya, the island which is considered by many to be one of the absolute top-trip eldorados in the north. One of the many classics on Kvaløya is the trip up "Skittentinden".

Description

The starting point for the trip is at "Kattfjordeidet", located half an hour's drive from Tromsø. There is plenty of parking near "Kattfjordvatnet".

From the start, a flat leg first awaits over "Kattfjordvatnet", before a climb starts up through the glistening forest.

At about 400 m, the terrain flattens out, before continuing along the ridge southeast of "Trollskarvatnet".

At the end of the ridge, cross "Trollskarvatnet" and carry upward towards the famous "lunch stone". From here, the fine eastern flank of "Skittentinden" is the remaining part, where you now have about 350 vert m, with an average gradient between 25 and 30 degrees.

Most people who visit "Skittentinden" in winter do not climb the highest point. Instead, the tour usually ends at the "ski peak" about 20 meters lower than the highest point. If you want to reach the very top of "Skittentinden", it's an advantage if you have crampons and ice axe in your backpack.

The top has a beautiful view of many of other exciting peaks on Kvaløya, as well as towards fjords and mountains farther away.

Down from the top awaits a wonderful descent all the way down to "Kattfjordvatnet", the same way you ascended.
