Whether you're staying at a campground or visiting for the day, this loop is a versatile option for anyone looking to get some exercise during their visit. Just over 5 miles long, this easy bike ride offers breathtaking views of the Grand Canyon's dramatic landscape, plus Bright Angel Bicycles offers bicycle rentals and tours of the South Rim if that's more your style. This loop is also spectacular in the morning, with the rising sun illuminating the vibrant red rock landscape.

Description

Compared to the rugged Bright Angel and South Kaibab Trails that lead north into the canyon, this loop is a mixture of paved, dirt and crushed gravel pathways. Other than the greenway trails and paved roads within the park, bicycles are not allowed on most trails or within the canyon itself.

As mapped, this route begins at Bright Angel Bicycles near the South Rim Visitor Center. Though you could ride the loop either direction, most choose counter-clockwise, which follows the greenway to the Grand Canyon Village. Though not mapped, consider locking up the bike or walking it to one of the many spectacular vistas overlooking the canyon at the Village. At times, you can see portions of the Bright Angel Trail, which leads into the canyon and, ultimately, Phantom Ranch.

Water and restrooms are available at both the Visitor Center and throughout Grand Canyon Village. Alternatively, locals suggest bringing some money along for a snack or drink from one of the park's concessionaires.
