A narrow, shallow, steep chute above an open bowl
Freeride Skiing Severe
A narrow, steep chute above an open bowl, West Ridge Chute C is hemmed on either side by trees. The entrance here is usually not guarded by a cornice and so is easier than the three chutes higher on the ridge. Access by hiking the Throne, pass the Southback gate at the False Summit and past the tree island guarding Chute B. Watch for the traverse track below the chute as it opens into the bowl below. Stay to the right in the open bowl to avoid a steep cedar bench that is often rocky and sometimes requires mandatory air.
Severe
Steep skiing at 38-45 degrees. This requires very good technique and the risk of falling has serious consequences.
