Alex's Funnel Map

A narrow couloir that funnels through a steep, rocky chute, Alex's Funnel is deceptive. The upper section is wide and inviting. In a deep snow season, the narrowest part of the funnel goes. During a low snow season, it can often get rocky, and requires more skill. Alex's Funnel sits in the lee of the prevailing winds, and is often quite deep. The slope avalanches regularly. Even though Alex's Funnel is part of Hamburger Basin, it is only accessible when Southback is open. Enter the upper Southback gate at the summit of the Throne and work the ridge past The Bowl to the widest opening in the trees. Ski cut across the upper slope before committing, as this slope does not get much skier compaction.
