Leogang - Sommerau Map

Exit the Steinberg lift (or the Asitz gondola) on piste no. 87 (Asitz summit lift). Retract beside the station into the area and depart on a flat clearing, which merges into a former ropeway after a few meters, in the woods. At about 1440m you meet a forest road, slightly uphill, which goes to the left- you take it. Several deep incised streams are easily overcome. After about 250m (almost 20m rise) you leave the forest road to the right before a curve which then takes you to about 1470m. Above the Sommerau there are two ropeways crossing. Keep left until after a crossing at the upper limit of a clearing, where you´ll see the homestead Sappenmais (1008m). Left of the farm it crosses a forest road. Keep on the next field to the left and then head through a forest. Again a few meters through a forest and onto a further clearing - this time with conifers, traverse further to the left. Shortly before a dense forest it takes you on a beautiful clearing. Take this route at 950m to the marked ski route back to Leogang (forest road). This rises to about 15m towards the track to the left, slightly uphill and arrives at a piste intersection. Here, follow the marked piste for the Steinberg lift (or Krallerhof). On the slope (first forest road), ride comfortably towards the valley station. This descent is relatively safe from avalanches and is ideal in midwinter with a lot of fresh snow. The new Steinberg lift makes a repeated riding of the variant easy to access several times.
