Description

We have been snowed in with the Flexenpass closed, Ruefikopf down and only the local area around Kriegerhorn operating lifts.

One beautiful spot in those days is very easy to access: Leave the Kriegerhorn Chair lookers left, ski/board around the building passing the garage for the snowcats. Now follow meadows, an initially flat section, staying high using the natural features, sprinkled trees to have some fun until you reach the avalanche barricades. Stay right of the first ones you spot. There are plenty of variations and you can follow the ridge until you see further barricades which can be passed on either side, sometimes you can even navigate through them or huck the lowest of them if the snowpack is deep.

The chute on the left triggers easily after a dump (I have been washed out) but consequences are not too bad, provided of course that you are with a friend and have your avalanche gear in place. Making your way into the barricades - they are nicely spaced, which opens more options. You can even go all the way right and enjoy some widely spaced trees.

Once reaching the bowl go straight, either just cutting left above the denser treeline or ski down to the top of the Hinterwies T-Bar. Below are some beautiful trees, but those are wildlife reserves, so off-limits. Tempting, but bad for Karma and your holiday budget if you get caught...

You can lap this run a few times. Surprisingly, it doesn't immediately get tracked after a storm and has enough options to keep you entertained for a few runs. There is one way to sneak through the cliffs and go down to Zuger Chairlift. For that, stay right of the second barricades staying fairly close to the ridge on your right and follow it down until it spits you into a couloir. Follow this, it makes a turn to the left which gets you all the way to the trees. Once you see some barns on your right traverse right to the chair lift. Check before if this lift actually does run, in bad weather it does get closed at times.
