Gran Couloir Stolemberg Map

The couloir has a steep entrance but opens out into a wide slope, making for a cool variant to the classic Balma route. Beware of avalanche risk at the top after snowfall or wind.

Description

From the top station of Passo Salati, climb up the slope behind the station to the little col marking the entry to the couloir (approximately 15 minutes). During the winter season the track is often already done before you get there so no need for skins. Ski into the couloir then follow the wide slope into the Balma valley. From here the itinerary is the same as the Balma classic route all the way to Alagna.
