If you are looking for a short and scenic hike in Sedona, Arizona, you should check out the Fay Canyon Arch trail. This 1.5-mile out-and-back trail takes you through a lush canyon with towering red rock walls and a hidden arch that will wow you with its size and shape.

Description

The trail starts from a large parking lot off Boynton Pass Road and follows a sandy path that is mostly flat and shaded by junipers and oaks. Along the way, you will enjoy views of interesting rock formations and box canyons. After about half a mile, look for a cairn (a pile of rocks) on the right side of the trail that marks the turnoff to the arch. You will have to climb up a steep and rocky slope to reach the arch, but it is well worth the effort. The arch is not visible from the main trail, but once you get closer, you will be amazed by its curving red rock span that frames the blue sky.

You can explore under and around the arch, or continue past it to a higher viewpoint that offers panoramic views of the canyon and beyond. Be careful of loose rocks and steep drop-offs, and respect the fragile environment. When you are done admiring the arch, return to the main trail and continue to the end of the canyon, where you will see a sign that says "end of trail". You can either turn back here, or scramble up one of the rock walls for more views and adventure.

The Fay Canyon Arch trail is one of the best short hikes in Sedona, featuring a striking hidden arch and optional rock scramble leading to spectacular canyon views. It is suitable for all skill levels, but be prepared for some elevation gain and uneven terrain. Dogs are welcome on this trail, but must be on a leash. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.
