Freeride Skiing Difficult
Similar to Camera Land, the Mary Chutes zone is an iconic area of Brighton where many ski and snowboard films have been shot. This zone has a lot of cliffs but with more obvious routes down that don't require taking air. Although easily accessed from the resort, this area is out of bounds and is not patrolled by Brighton. There is no avalanche control work done here, so carry a beacon, probe shovel, know how to use them, and bring a partner you trust. After getting of the Milly chair, head left towards Milly Bowl. Stay high on the traverse across the bowl. Traverse across the entire bowl until you see the boundary line and a small gate at the top of that line. Head through the gate and keep your speed up.
After passing through the gate, maintain your speed and stay on the traverse for another 200-300 feet. Eventually this traverse will come out of the trees and start to veer left downhill. Once you're here, keep your speed up to make it past a brief flat spot. This traverse will run through tight trees, and will have several off-shoots. All of the runs in this area are short, fun, and have options of cliffs or open runs. Follow the traverse track until you see a bowl open up to your right. Either head into that bowl, head to the cliffs on your left, or continue down the ridge. The easiest route here is to exit out the bowl on your right. It has about 100 feet of an open field. Once you've skied to this point, continue into the trees for another 200 feet. You will eventually find the cat track that will take you back to crest or over to Milly.
