Freeride Skiing Severe
After finishing the one of the classic couloirs from above and just after starting the traverse back to the Midi mid station take a left and ski down a short pitch which leads you towards the Bossons glacier. Always staying just to the R of the glacier itself descend until near the snout of the glacier before going hard left onto the glacier itself. The route varies drastically here from year to year but locate a safe passage from the glacier onto the snowy slopes below. This may involve down climbing and/or rappelling. Once off the glacier ski fall line for a short pitch or two before taking the left facing slopes into the valley below. Follow this until it narrows and a walkers path is found which takes you back to the parking lot for the tunnel du Mont Blanc. Take the Chamonix return route from here if there is enough snow or hitch back to town.
Severe
Steep skiing at 38-45 degrees. This requires very good technique and the risk of falling has serious consequences.
