Morning Mission Map

The Morning Mission is one of those lines that gets your blood pumping from top to bottom. Getting it in good conditions can be one of the best days of your life while getting it in bad snow will have you vowing never to do something so stupid again. This line is tight, steep and insanely exposed and should only be done when all the stars align as an uncontrollable slide or being swept in an avalanche would have fatal results.

Description

Heading up the Tamokdalen Road from Lyngen before long you will see the main river on the left hand side. Once over a bridge and that same river is on the right hand side it is time to park the car and prepare to start climbing. Make your way up a small drainage until into a small but semi sheltered upper bowl and start following the lookers left ridge until you can see the obvious entrance to the Morning Mission.

Looking down the Morning Mission the slopes seem to just drop away and they do. If you kept going fall line there is a massive cliff under your feet. Saying that make sure that you are happy with stability before even attempting to ride this line. Be it snow pits or ski cuts please proceed with caution making your way down the upper chute. Once the line opens up into a small bench make sure to do a hard traverse to the skiers left where there is another chute all the way into the basin. Once in the lower chute make your way down fast as you are still in avalanche terrain.

Arriving at the bottom congratulate yourself for surviving the Morning Mission and start riding down the main drainage on the skiers right side well away from the actual creek. Once the slope mellows out you can head back towards the creek and ride all the way down to the road. Once there it is time to walk back to your car and celebrate that you ticked this classic off the list. This is a very serious line and should only be done if you are confident with steeps and exposure.
