Hiking Moderate, Difficult, Severe, Extreme
Yosemite National Park is nature’s showcase of megalithic sculptures, carved by the hand of time with the tools of ice and water. The formations are so huge that, to a viewer on the valley floor, they stretch seemingly out of reach, blending into an awe-inspiring but intangible backdrop. They are more than just a display, though. For those who dare to venture upward, the granite behemoths become a giant’s playground. Their sides are, in fact, scalable, and their summits are indeed obtainable. The sheerest of cliffs are reserved for expert rock climbers, but even the impossible-looking Half Dome and El Capitan both concede hikers’ routes to the top.
Once you’ve stood in Yosemite Valley and seen it from below, take on these trails and experience it from above. The list includes a range of difficulties, from the family-friendly scamper up Sentinel Dome, to the intimidating Cables of Half Dome, to the technical Mountaineers Route on Cathedral Peak. All are worthy summits that stand out on the skyline, and all of them grant commanding views over much of Yosemite National Park.
