Dropping South West of Tenison Woods Knoll, this provides a fairly open face with a variety of lines on offer leading down to Strzelecki Creek
Freeride Skiing Difficult
The Avalanche Face provides some wide skiing opportunities, with incredible views and often some incredible skiing. The run is hard to identify from Tenison Woods Knoll, but if you head towards the Sentinel, you will find yourself in the right place. The top part of the run can be wind scoured, but the snow builds up lower down and some nice snow can be found, in spring the face to the skiers left is best positioned to catch the sun, and the best place to find some spring corn. All of these slopes drain down to Strzelecki Creek, so this is really a case of pick your line and let her rip. Continue down the gully when the cover is deep and low on the mountain, take care of the waterfall lower down. The Avalanche Face doesn't hold the name for no reason, there have been many near death experiences on this face, and this is a run to really take care on. Assess the snow conditions, and know when to choose another face. That being said this area provides some excellent skiing, get creative with your lines and enjoy! For adrenaline seekers, head skiers right of the face along Ant Ridge, a third of the way down this will drop down to Strzelecki Creek, which does provide some seriously intense skiing or boarding, just make sure conditions are right for that one. The best return is to either hike or skin straight back up the gully, or boot pack up Ant Ridge.
