Description

The 82 Alpine 4000ers get plenty of hype - understandably - but their fame makes it easy to forget that there are countless other, slightly lower mountains in the Alps which deserve some attention. 3 of those mountains are described here and all are accessed from the Cabane de Moiry, in the heart of the Swiss Valais.

Just driving into the Moiry valley is spectacular and the approach to the Cabane/hut is short, so take some time on the journey to stop and admire the views from the lake which guards the entrance to the valley. Once at the hut you will see why it has been labelled as the "most scenic place to eat in Switzerland". The hut was renovated in 2008 and the new wing, with its glass-fronted dining room has to be seen to be believed.

The 3 routes described here are all fairly straightforward but they'll all present you with a challenge and a thorough test of all your alpine skills. To complete them you'll need to be a confident scrambler and cramponer, and also able to route find and travel safely through serious glacial terrain.

After a few nights at the Cabane de Moiry, head down to the valley for a warm shower and then get stuck into these!
