Description

With trips taking in the barren Scottish valleys, the arid peaks of Morocco and the World's highest mountain, there aren't many guidebooks out there as varied - or ambitious - as this one. It might be more of an inspirational tool than one you'll realistically use for planning, but dreaming of mountains can be almost as fun as climbing them!

The traditional "Seven Summits" involves the highest point on every continent and was dreamed up by American businessman and mountaineer Dick Bass. This list is a little more difficult to define, but essentially it involves climbing the highest mountain in 10 different ranges, each interesting and appealing for differing reasons.

We've recruited some expert help with this one - IFMGA guides Calum Muskett, Tom Grant and Jon Morgan wrote the Mount Cook, Denali and Mont Blanc routes respectively, and 14 time Everest summiteer (and IFMGA guide to boot) Kenton Cool contributed the Everest route description.

If high, glaciated mountains all sound a bit too much then there's also some routes in here which are much more attainable for the average hiker. We've got the classic "3 Peaks" of Britain - Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike - and non-technical treks such as Toubkal (the highest peak in the Atlas mountains) and Kilimanjaro; the "Roof of Africa". For those looking to transition from Kilimanjaro to Everest, we've also included a full description of how to climb Aconcagua - the highest mountain in South America, and one of the toughest non-glaciated treks on the planet.

You might not tick all - or any - of the mountains on this list, but you can at least enjoy dreaming of it!
